REAL PRESENCE – FLOATING SITES is addressed to the emerging generation of artists and students of Fine Art Academies and functions as dynamic workshop based on the ongoing programme composed of public actions, performances, presentations and discussions. Through its permanent activity it aims to experiment and  expand boundaries of “classical” academic educative methods and to underline that nowadays is not possible any more to consider that there is a bog gap in between phase of “formation” and that of “professional” work. Recent big contemporary art manifestations, such as various Biennials, Manifesta etc. showed that even very young artists (still students in some cases) can take part and be presented on higher “institutional” levels.

“Floating Sites” is conceived as the project that combines experiences of big international workshops that involved emerging generation of artists coming from the European art Academies realised in the last six years in Belgrade (“Real Presence” since 2001), Frankfurt (“Gasthof 2002”) and Venice (“Vivere Venezia”, 2003 and “Floating Sites”, 2005 within 51° edition of Venice Biennial), as well as many others.  

In its two sessions REAL PRESENCE – FLOATING SITES will have about hundred participants from: Austria, Bulgaria, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Holland, Italy, Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Singapore, Slovenia, United States and other countries. 

The idea of REAL PRESENCE – an encounter of great number of young artists – emerged in 2001, immediately after the democratic change in Serbia. Upcoming generations of young artists from all Europe and other countries of the world have been involved and invited to come to Belgrade and testify with their “presence” the beginning of a new period, more liberal and open for the country that was coming out from ten years of cultural isolation. REAL PRESENCE has been conceived in a way to become a sort of a bridge capable to rise above fragments of the past time and to construct new channels that could permit a dynamic flux of ideas, energies and visions for the future. In following years this bridge has been transformed to a powerful construction, to a sort of spontaneous and fluid behavioural architecture and in communicational network in constant evolution. Thanks to more than one thousand “real presences” that crossed Belgrade between 2001 and 2006, it is now starting a new adventure that involves again a great number of young artists ready to step in to the international art scene. The 7^th encounter of emerging generations of artists in its two phases (Belgrade in August and Istanbul in September) aims to stimulate and present various and multiple aspects of creativity that are emerging between art and real life.
