Exhibition / event PROGRESSIVE HOPES involves young artists and students from the art academies from Italy and Serbia who took part in the artistic workshop “Real Presence 2001 – 2005”. Similar exhibition, with smaller number of participants, has been organized in the Zvono Gallery in 2004. Aim of these programs was and still is to continue developing contacts and collaborations between young artists from different cultural backgrounds through exhibitions and events that maintain flexible model of workshop and elaborate new creative approaches.

The drawing, as programmatic orientation of Haos gallery, with exhibition / event PROGRESSIVE HOPES, expands in different areas of artistic presentation and creates direct links between drawing and other expressive languages, ranging from sculptural, performative to multi-media and spatial interventions.

Exhibition PROGRESSIVE HOPES demonstrates, through numerous contents, the process of entering into the real space of manifestation of art and emphasizes its happening functionality. The space of the gallery, in this case, expands through involvement and animation of numerous fashion and other shops in the Cara Lazara Street, which becomes a space for exhibition for numerous young artists and students from fine art academies. The space of the street becomes in this way a huge scene animated by the dynamic motion of artists, public, occasional passers by in the specific interactive relationship of contact, dialogue, exchange… all in one day: in order to live art in the same way as we live life.

The idea of this project emerged last year through street interventions and performances of artists who took part in the “Real Presence” workshop and especially through street drawings realized by Mexican artist Gaston Ramirez Feltrin in front of City Parliament and through imprints that group of artists: Eduard Klein, Jenni Kneis and  Anna Vovan realized on the streets and that are still visible, like for instance mark “Go West” in front of café Petao.

The idea has been concluded with annual exhibition of students at the Academy of Fine Arts, especially with classes of sculpture, where students presented extraordinary new production from which almost every work could have been included in our street project.

PROGRESSIVE HOPES is actually directly related to this remarkable potential and talent of the young artists.

Manifestation “Real Presence” since 2001 up till now wanted to underline and question the status of emerging generations as actual cultural, social and political question: what is happening with the status of young artists and how much is really elevated their educational, professional and life standard, if they are nominally, permanent “progressive” hope and future of every society, policy and culture.

Together with Dobrila, we wish to thank to all participants of the workshop “Real Presence” who are involved in the show PROGRESSIVE HOPES. We wish to thank to all professors and students of Academies and Faculties of Fine Arts who accepted to take part in the project.

Especially we thank to the Embassy of the Republic of Italy for the support, and to His Excellency Ambassador Alessandro Merola and to attaché for culture Filippo Colombo. We wish to thank for long and fruitful collaboration to Italian Cultural Institute, to director Mr. Giorgio Salerno and cultural attaché Mrs. Alessandra Taliani.

My personal thank go to Mrs. Borka Božović, director of the Haos gallery, for invitation and support to give new cultural input and energy to the street Cara Lazara. I thank to all owners and managers of the boutiques for their understanding and help.

We thank especially to: Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Education and City Council for Culture as well as to sponsors: VODA VODA, Don Café, Restaurant Pietro Dell'Oro and media-sponsor B92.
